FY 2016 Community Development Block Grant Accomplishments

  • Conducted a total of seven CDBG Public Participation hearings for member communities throughout Gila and Pinal Counties.
  • CAG Staff developed a total of six CDBG project applications throughout the region.
  • CAG Staff reviewed a total of five CDBG Regional Account applications.
  • CAG Staff completed two CDBG Environmental Reviews for the Town of Eloy to facilitate a CDBG/WIFA project combining a water main replacement, and a street reconstruction project.
  • Conducted Davis-Bacon (Labor Standards) compliance surveys for the Town of Eloy’s CDBG/WIFA project.
  • Concluded the Town of Hayden’s Housing Demolition project.
  • CAG Staff continues to work with the Town of Hayden to complete a Refrigerator/Freezer installation for the Hayden Senior Center.
  • CAG Staff has worked with the Town of Miami on their CDBG Merritt Walkway reconstruction project.
  • CAG continues to facilitate a sub-regional planning effort in the Copper Basin region of southern Gila and eastern Pinal counties.  This effort initially originated from a project discussion related to the Town of Hayden’s General Plan concerning local issues, concerns and economic conditions.  This effort has continued on for two years, and includes a consolidated forum of the five regional communities of Hayden, Winkelman, Superior, Kearny and Mammoth. These meetings are held on a regular basis, and include attendance by the Mayors of each community.
  • CAG is facilitating a regional Police Taskforce effort to consolidate police services for the communities of Kearny, Hayden, Winkelman, and Mammoth, and sharing a new Police Chief.   The effort has enjoyed the support of the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the League of Arizona Cities and Towns.  DPS has provided Interim Police Chief Coverage for the communities during this process of establishing the police service and hiring a new Police Chief, and has pledged to continue with the project of moving toward the development of a regional department.
  • Assisting the Town of Superior with its CDBG Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Improvement project.
  • Working with the Town of Superior in pursuing a FEMA Hazard Mitigation grant for the WWTP.
  • CAG has assisted several communities with Special Income Surveys to qualify for CDBG funding.
  • CAG Staff provided ongoing assistance to multiple members with grant related data requests associated with Census and socio-economic information.
  • CAG continues to work with several communities in developing data for use in various possible grant programs, and to identify the possibility of additional revenue streams for community improvements.
  • Hosted the Annual Fair Housing Training event by the Southwest Fair Housing Council, which was attended by representatives from 13 member governments of CAG.
  • CAG Staff attended multiple training events pertaining to items such as Housing Rehabilitation projects, Environmental Reviews, project development, and general project management.
  • CAG Staff participated in two Arizona Department of Housing program development conferences attended by State staff and other rural COGs.
  • Have met with communities throughout the year to discuss a number of ongoing project needs pertaining to community infrastructure and housing.
  • CAG Staff has attended numerous trainings and meetings during FY 2016 at the Arizona Department of Housing in an effort to remain current on all program guidelines and regulations as they pertain to community projects throughout Gila and Pinal Counties.
